I almost can't believe today marks 5 years exactly since I submitted my paperwork to the city and officially opened my dog training business, Creature Good Dog Training.
If you've ever wondered where the name came from, my nephew - around 6 years old at the time - came up with it and, although it sometimes confuses people, I love it.
Since that day, September 1, 2019, I and this business have evolved. We've both grown and changed. The most impactful change, for me, is that my dog, Jake, who was the inspiration for me to become a dog trainer, is no longer with me. He passed away on December 27, 2022. I miss him every day.
Even though he's gone, Jake still inspires me every day to do the best I possibly can for sensitive dogs like him. I've even adopted another highly reactive dog, named Shadow Dawn, whose behavior actually make's Jake's issues look like a cake walk.
I've also become certified as a Pet Loss Specialist so I can provide grief coaching to other people who have lost their beloved pet. It's one of the harder things to deal with in life and I'm honored I get to hold space with grieving pet parents and walk with them through their grieving process. Life won't ever be the same after losing a beloved pet, but the pain will lessen and you will be able to love another pet when the time is right.
In honor of school being back in session, I’m bringing back my free class series! I'll share more once it's all set up. For now, mark 5:30pm EST on Thursday, September 19 in your calendar for a fun and hands on class on teaching your dog to come when called every time - all the time.
I also want to share these 5 highlights from my 5 years of running my dog training Business:
#1 has to be working with 1000+ clients to help them and their dogs thrive!
Being invited to Speak on dog behavior at the Boston Museum of Science
Having a mostly referral based business because my clients are so awesome!
Adding 6 credentials to the one I started with so I can keep up with changes in canine research & add ever increasing value to my work
Consistently being voted a top trainer in MA (not to brag as I pat myself on the back)
I can’t wait to see what the next 5 years have in store!
