How My Training Works

Compassionate, customized support for reactive and anxious dogs — and the people who love them.

At Creature Good Dog Training, I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all programs or pushing dogs past what they can handle. Reactive behavior isn’t a training failure — it’s communication. My job is to help you understand what your dog is telling you and guide both of you toward calmer, safer, more connected experiences.

My approach focuses on three essential elements: safety, skills, and support.

First, we help your dog FEEL SAFE.

Reactive dogs can’t learn when they’re overwhelmed. We start by adjusting the environment, routines, and walk setups so your dog stays below their stress threshold as much as possible. This reduces blow-ups, protects your dog’s nervous system, and creates the foundation for real change.

Next, we teach practical COPING SKILLS.

Once your dog feels safer, we begin reinforcing calmer choices — like checking in with you, disengaging from triggers, or recovering more quickly after stress. Rather than suppressing behavior, we actively teach your dog what to do instead, and we make those choices rewarding and reliable in real-life situations.

Throughout the process, I SUPPORT YOU.

Reactive dogs are deeply affected by their humans’ emotions, body language, and expectations. I coach you through leash handling, timing, mindset, and emotional regulation — without judgment. You don’t need to be perfect. You need clear guidance, realistic goals, and someone in your corner.

The result isn’t just fewer reactions. It’s more confidence, better communication, and a stronger sense of trust between you and your dog.

We accomplish all of this through the framework of my CHARM Approach:

✅ Build Confidence
✅ Enhance Handling skills
✅ Establish Enrichment Activities
✅ Respond Positively to Triggers
✅ Adopt a Growth Mindset
